Arcadi Navarro obtained a PhD in Biology in 1998 at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. After quitting the academic world for a few years, he went back to basic research in 1999 as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Edinburgh. He entered the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in 2002 as a researcher within the Ramón y Cajal program and was appointed ICREA Research Professor in 2006. Currently he leads a research group in Evolutionary Genomics within the Evolutionary Biology Unit of the Department of Experimental and Heath Sciences of the UPF. In addition, he is the director of the Population Genomics Node of the Spanish National Institute for Bioinformatics (INB) and the Vice-director or the Institute for Evolutionary Biology (IBE). |
Hafid Laayouni obtained a PhD in Biology in 2000 at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. After some years of teaching a research in different institutions, in 2006 he entered the Universitat Pompeu Fabra as a researcher associated to the CIBEResp (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red en Epidemiología y Salud Pública), a research position that he combines with an Associate Professorship in the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, where he teaches Genetics and Biostatistics. |
Gabriel Santpere obtained a PhD in Biology in 2009 at the Universitat de Barcelona. The topic of his thesis was focused around convergent mechanisms in human neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson disease. Afterwards, he coursed the Master in Bioinformatics for Health Sciences at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and currently he is working at the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) where he is performing research on human, primate and virus genomic diversity by means of next-generation sequencing technologies. |
