Who we are

The GTPB runs regularly at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência since 1999. Up to now, more than 3000 course participants have acquired practical skills that they can use with independence. Short, intensive hands on courses available on successful application.

The Programme is described in "The GTPB training programme in Portugal", Brief Bioinform (2010) 11 (6): 626-634 first published online October 21, 2010 doi:10.1093/bib/bbq063 (free download). This article appears in a "Special Issue: Education in Bioinformatics"

The GTPB experience is also referenced in "Training Experimental Biologists in Bioinformatics" Advances in Bioinformatics (open access), Volume 2012, Article ID 672749, doi:10.1155/2012/672749

GENERAL NOTE ON COSTS, for non-resident applicants:
PARTICIPATION FEES:
Most of our courses follow the general model in which we charge Euro 80.00 per day per participant. Lunch is included.
Members of IGC, or local Institutes and Centers with whom we have agreements (ITQB,IBET,CEDOC) and members of IGC's "Associated Groups" are not charged individually and need to ask their liaison officers about the specific way to apply correctly. Fees are periodically debited and participants do not need to worry about the bureaucracy.

LOCAL COSTS:
Please note that the cost of subsistence in Oeiras is usually quite low.
We are eager to help you to reduce your subsistence costs to the appropriate level, on request. As a guide number, one can count on a daily value of about Euro 35. On availability, a night at a local academic residence can cost Euro 21.30, subject to availability. A dinner in a simple local restaurant can cost Euro 10. Lunch on course days is included in the course fee (for external attendees only).

PAIRING OF COURSE PROGRAMMES:
Training courses identical or similar to those offered by the GTPB are available in other Institutes. An ongoing cooperation allows us to recommend them. Different access conditions do apply, according to the local organization. The offer is not exactly the same but there is some overlap.
